WHO IT’S FOR
Families Kids as young as 10 can rappel, and watching your child work up the courage to step off that ledge—and then do it—is something you don’t forget. And having your kids cheer you on can’t be beat! This is a great adventure for families who want to level up beyond the river trip.
Groups and Scout Troops We’ve been hosting groups for over 50 years on the water, and now we’re ready for you on the rock. Rappelling trips accommodate groups of any size with up to 8 people on the rappel site at one time. Perfect for youth organizations, adult adventure groups, and everyone in between.
Corporate Team-Building Nothing builds a team like doing something genuinely challenging together. Our rappelling experience is a natural fit for corporate groups looking for an alternative to the conference room—approachable enough for everyone, memorable enough to actually matter. Ask us about pairing a rappel trip with one of our float trips for a full-day outdoor team experience.
Adventure Seekers If you’ve been looking for the next thing to add to your Shenandoah trip, here it is. Pair it with a float trip, guided hike, or bike rental the same day or the next morning and you’ve got a weekend you’ll be telling people about for years.

ABOUT THE LOCATION
Golden Rock is Downriver’s private campground just south of our main location in Bentonville, tucked into the Shenandoah Valley at the base of the George Washington National Forest. The rappel site sits on a scenic ridgeline overlooking the valley, about a 5-minute hike from the campground on a forested trail. You’re less than an hour’s drive from Washington, D.C., but you’d never know it.
If you’ve never been to Downriver Canoe Company before: we’re a family-owned outdoor outfitter that’s been on the South Fork of the Shenandoah since 1974. We know this land, we know this river, and now we know this ridge. Come find out why people keep coming back.
